Literacy Library for Equity, Social Justice, and Peace
May 14, 2022 a white supremist opened fire in a market in downtown Buffalo and shot and killed 10 members of our Black community in a tragic act of cowardness and racism. One can choose to feel bad about this action or do something about helping to promote nonviolence through compassion and learning. Drs. Cappella and Bard and Melissa Blattner chose to do the latter and create a Literacy Library to foster Equity, Social Justice and Peace. This library now resides in the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library as well as at the library at Buffalo State University This is just the beginning as we plan to expand this library locally, statewide and nationally and wish to thank Buffalo Public Library Director, John Spears and Electronic and Resource Librarian, Buffalo State University, Christopher Hulsman who both embody the true meaning of leadership for Peace and Social Justice by supporting a systemic change to integrate this collection into both the public and University libraries. This collection promotes the principles of creating a non-violent world.
