Books for Kids (1995-Current)

The Books for Kids program was established in 1995.  Project Flight’s mission is to have every child have a book and be able to read it at grade level, have children live in a literate environment, and that literacy will be an entrée out of poverty.

The Books for Kids Program with the theme “Give a book touch a life,” has donated close to three million books to children in over 2845 schools and agencies and has created or contributed to hundreds of on-site libraries. This program addresses the Family Literacy childhood component. In 2020, during the pandemic shut-down, Project FLIGHT donated 31,000 books to the Books for Kids program which served children in 31 service agencies and schools. This program specifically addresses the need for children to read for meaning and interpretation, for literary response and expression, and for social interaction (NYS Standards 1, 2 & 4).

Books for Kids with Project Flight (2024)

Books for Kids collects new children’s books from the Western New York community and distributes them to needy children who would not otherwise have a chance to own a book of their own. For more info, visit https://www.buffalolib.org/project-flight.
